what is an zoetrope ?

A zoetrope is a pre-cinema animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion.
The zoetrope consists of a cylinder with slits cut vertically in the sides. The slits are there to make sure the user actually sees the snimation and so the images don't blurr together.

In this video clip is the simpsons being animated in a zoetrope which spins the character barts on a skate board dodging homer and the dog. Homer is also chasing their dog also Marge is jumping and wiggling her head.

The Kinetoscope is an early motion picture exhibition device. The Kinetoscope was designed for films to be viewed by one individual at a time through a peephole viewer window at the top of the device.

The animation is from 'The Lion King' and this is a traditional animation. The techniques is at first they gather their ideas by going out and seeing the way the animals move and they draw pictures as a baseline before the story line which gives them something to look at before hand. After they draw out the storyboard they work with actors and actresses to kind of blend their personalities with the characters in the movie. In the video it shows me they make a number of drawings to show the different emotions in the characters face and also to create the movie. By them drawing the anmiation this makes it easier to edit in some way because they can edit the angle of the lions or birds whatever they are drawing and putting in the next scene. They also make the character have there own personalities and feelings so it makes it easier for the voiceovers to connect to the character.
